music

Before I left for Thailand, I was so devastated that my favorite radio station of all time transformed to be the resurrected Campus Radio.

It really felt like 99.5 RT was officially DEAD.

However, I was only too darn ecstatic when I got home to discover that Campus Radio is DEAD and RT was resurrected!

Lemme count the ways I love RT:

1. It’s maximum music and minimum talk.

2. It recognizes potential hits and plays them way before other radio stations. “Way before” means months or years.

3. It has shaped music and Filipino music as we know it today.

4. No jocks trying to be cool. They just are.

By bringing RT back, I got back my music.

I got back what I lost in time.

And I get to feel good about it all over again!

Everything that I said here about RT is true, except that I’m not talking about RT.

And I’m not talking about *you.*

watch ‘em come to life

This link shows a bunch of children’s drawings come to life, complete with floating stuff, crazy costumes, & hairstyles. It’s not in English, but you don’t need to understand the words to get it. It appeals to the kid in me, and hits mah funny bone with photo #11.

Pardon me. I have this need to search for my drawings back when I was 5…

warp zone

this blog fell on mar 29:

Some 24 hours ago, I re-met someone for the first time. And I liked this re-introduction better.

I was introduced to her some five years ago as a friend’s friend. It was so awkward. I can’t explain to you how it felt like to be looking at her for a split second, thus, acknowledging her existence, yet also knowing at the back of my mind that we both knew that we were born rivals. Something about that meeting.

A few weeks ago, she crossed my mind.

Some days before that, some co-workers said that I remind them of another doctor they all know - that I look like her, talk like her, and act like her.

And yet, I wasn’t able to make that connection.

So some 24 hours ago, when she said the name of our mutual friend, I froze. My mind refused to function and try to work out an explanation. It took some moments later to realize that she was that “rival”.

That awkwardness five years ago was inexistent this time. From that moment on, no word nor action that came after was a lie. By some magic, five years made the difference.

It’s not everyday that you agree when someone tells you that you look like - or at least remind them - of someone they know (or watch on tv and films ). But looking at her for the first time for real, I can see all the similarities. She isn’t my clone, but she can pass as a morena version of me.

I can’t wait to see her again.

meet dr meredith gray

What a coincidence. ;-)

Meet Sydney’s Dr. Meredith Gray.

Dr Gray said having the same name as the central character [the award-winning US drama] elicits laughs of disbelief
from patients and colleagues "at least twice a day".

I don’t think the name is the only thing they have in common because I think they kinda look alike…

From The Sydney Morning Herald, April 22, 2007.

game over!

Imagine video games from the 80’s recreated in an auditorium.

Guillaume Reymond, a Swiss artist, did this for his Game Over Project.
This "consists of a series of collaborative animation movies which
revive some of the very first video games. The pixels are replaced by a
group of real human-beings that are moving from seat to seat in a
theatre during about 4 to 6 hours."

Nag-enjoy ako sa Tetris at Space Invaders. AT yung background background music - officially my new LSS. Jeez.

happy halloween!

The last time I celebrated Valentine’s Day fully was in
grade school. I sent and received cards, cookies or small dolls from my
classmates. To me it was Christmas overloaded with hearts. And instead of
lights, an overwhelming sight of flowers.

The last time I celebrated Valentine’s Day in an unconventional
way was College. We had a booth in the Feb Fair. Roses were pouring in from an
alumnae with a rose plantation, and we were banning all “doubles” from the
booth. This was exclusively a singles’ booth, as were the roses. The cocktails
we concocted were continuously flowing and hilarity ensued till the following
morning.

Back in college, there was a trend going on: a census on how
many people wore red on Valentine’s day. This did not conform with the
scientific method with which our mentors have incessantly taught us, hence, said census was unreliable. But it did provide an insight as to how many (you may insert any unmentionable
adjective here) wore red.

A year later, there was an addition to this census: those
who intended to make a statement by wearing black.

The last time I greeted anyone a Happy Valentine’s was
probably 9 years ago. Some 8 years ago, a friend and I realized how much
Valentine’s is like Halloween for those who do not enjoy Valentine’s.
Scary for some, even. Coincidentally, Halloween has been more enjoyable for both of us - it’s devoid of exclusivity (everyone gets candy!) and costumes provide more amusement than Valentine concerts. Cheaper, too. Hence, 8
years ago, we had our own little trick or treat on Valentine’s day as a joke.
We even went to the extent of greeting others a Happy Halloween. Those others
who got the joke, in turn, joined in our merriment.

No, I have had significant others then. But it was still fun
"not" celebrating Feb 14. It was habit-forming in the last 10 years or so…

…although I do love the flowers, cards, and CD’s I get,
even if they were just  from fraternity
brothers.

Cocomangas

Before_15_shots_editedCocomangas. Before her 15 shots to glory.

this blog fell on jan 25. boracay. holiday resort. 2am.

The good news: Trix did 15 shots with 3 other daring
“competitors.” The rest of us in our crowd – the spineless, gutless lot
- were placing big bucks on 1 of 2 other
Fil-Ams to finish first (assuming, of course, that all of them would be downing
all 15). I wasn’t encouraging my sister to finish first because that wasn’t the
game. But it wasn’t long before it became obvious that Trix was going faster
than all the others combined! And was still standing after 15! For this, she
received a humongous sum. I am about to find out in a few hours how
humongous….

Unfortunately, that’s as far as my story will go.

Let’s just say: by the time we got to Ibajay, Aklan for
their fiesta/Ati-atihan, she was known by family, guests, and priests (!!!) as
The Queen of Cocomangas.
