renee olstead
for my fellow music junkies
i’m a big fan of paradoxes! i loved the first time joss stone came into the music scene with her big soulful voice, with the thought that the woman behind it would be a 30-40-somethin’ black woman; then finding out that joss stone is a 16 yr.old white girl from the suburbs in u.k.
and then there were charlotte church, fat boy slim and macy gray. (and that’s all i’m gonna say about her).
this time, i’m going back to those jazzy/blues music. i kinda gave up on it when my dad saturated the house and the car (and the van, and the house in tuguegarao, and the videoke machine… you know what i mean) with michael buble. trix and i thought that sharing it with him would be a good bonding thang; it backfired.
same thing with norah jones and my mom.
so you understand why i’m keeping renee olstead to myself this time.
i first encountered her name as a musician last year, but didn’t pay much attention due to the reasons above. and seeing her album cover reminded me of a 30-40 yr old. not another kevyn lettau, i thought.
however, i also am an avid fan of still standing from the first time i watched it one boring evening 3 years ago when my tv could only show me 5 networks. i adored the red-head kid! reminded me of drew barrymore somehow. it was stupid of me not to tie-up her name with the name in the music store.
so imagine my surprise again that 15 yr old renee could sound the way she does!
i think it plays the whole album. (the controls are on the upper right corner of the page where the old-school mic is)
she just completed her new album last month; still waiting for its release soon.
by the way, charlotte church has an edgier sound these days… and added weight that i couldn’t believe!
