the hazards of commuting
for some time now, i’m am getting familiar with those novelty songs from all the commute i’ve had.
the worst part about hearing these songs is having a last song syndrome (LSS). to add insult to injury: the most annoying lyrics are those you get to memorize quickest.
the spaghetti song with ear-splitting vocals to boot. aww!
kiliti. wag dyan. may kiliti ako dyan. wag dyan.
itsumo kokoro we hoshi itsuka. dare katu mata koi nei utchitimo. itsumo kokoro nei eiro itsumo. anata dake no basho go aru kara.
(you gotta admit: after some time it gets amusing to actually memorize it. kinda like circa 70’s/80’s when you were trying to sing the theme to voltes v - or psy’s angelina circa 90’s - and have become desperate enough to invent your own lines.)
oh baby baybe baybe. my baybe baybe. wo jue bu neng shi qu ni. chi chu chin. chi cheng chin… whatever! that’s as far as i can go.
pamela wan. pamela-mela wan. pamela two. pamela-mela two.
the worst LSS i’ve had in the last few months: ang charing charing kong sumayaw. parang chubibo gumalaw. ang charing kong sumayaw, bibong-bibo gumalaw. i couldn’t get it off my brain for a week! that, with the recurring image of blackdyak (?) gyrating to the song.
ok ba?
today, though, is different. no LSS. jologs lang. i fell asleep in the van i was riding, and woke up learning that the jocks in the station were conducting a survery: "sa palagay mo, mas maraming pangit o maganda sa pilipinas?"
i have no idea what the final results were. suffice to say that the pangits have it by the time i stepped out of the van.
charing.

The French seem to like it.
Know when you try to call some offices and music plays on the phone when they put you on hold? Well one time when we were about to have a conference call with France, and these french guys were the one’s to call us. Unfortunately the Philippine team are not complete yet (you know us! Philippine time!) and we had to put the french on hold. don’t know who the sick bastard was but the call waiting music then was some Sexbomb song (forgot the title). When the we got connected, the french we’re laughing hard and singing some lines complete with the “AWW!”. Commented that they find the song was really amusing.
There’s no substance in the songs today. Even the rock groups. Not like the bands from late 80’s and early 90’s.
Current faves now, Sigur Ros, Teenage Fanclub, Pixies, Slowdive,Jesus and Mary Chain,My Bloody Valentine, Chainsaw Kittens,Pavement and Smashing Pumpkins.
Currently looking for Elliot Smith and Nick Cave songs.

“I love you, baby,
And if it’s quite alright,
I need you, baby,
To warm a lonely night.
I love you, baby.
Trust in me when I say:
Oh, pretty baby,
Don’t bring me down, I pray.
Oh, pretty baby, now that I found you, stay
And let me love you, baby.
Let me love you…”
That’s my LSS for days now, after watching a rerun in my top movies list– 10 things I hate about u. I just can’t get it out of my head!
I read that the best way to snap out of “earworms” (as they call catchy tunes) is to try and sing the song in its entirety- to achieve completion. If you can’t remember the lyrics or how it ends, rewrite the ending, he says. And if you can’t totally banish it, replace it with another song!
It seem to be effective but then it comes back playing in my head again… I purposely wrote the chorus so now, you’ll have it in your head too! lol
Well, to REALLY get it out of you is to actually listen to either complex music, like Mozart, or unfamiliar music that lacks a hook, like New Age. So says the article I read from Real Simple Magazine (August 2005 issue) in conclusion. See how it works for you trying to erase “can’t take my eyes off you” in your head!
ps. so u got this site working again… welcome back, hehe

really? something that lacks a hook? i just always play something much more pleasant or fun to my ears. in other words, i replace an LSS with a more pleasant LSS. i’ll try that with classical…
