bragging rights! (on alanis)

oh yeah. bragging rights, baby. let me do this cause there ain’t much to brag being me.

after writing that blog piece on alanis, coincidentally, my new friendster friend, mae, went to Album_cover_the alanis concert in the states and bought some of the cd’s. she even wrote it in her blog. she didn’t know i wrote about the album until i told her. as was previously written (in this shit), the album is exclusively available at starbucks for 6 weeks starting june13 . only after that will the album be released worldwide on july 26! and so like mae said, "you’re holding one hot copy, girl!"

ah sure aem!

i remember one question came up: why buy the album when alanis did the unplug album a few years back. the answer is: these are new versions! (i’m not quite good with the technical aspect so bear with me). apart from having a different sound, some of the lyrics were re-written (or was it just one song?) and music re-arranged to suit her present state of being. and probably to better suit the changing times.

i couldn’t choose whether the angry alanis or the subdued alanis is better. i grew up with angry alanis, and hearing the songs for the first time 10 years ago was therapeutic. hearing subdued alanis is honoring the evolution that you and her went through. it’s a journey into your past and right back to where you are.

we all know that alanis went under the radar after jagged little pill. we can all agree that she probably won’t achieve the same success as what she had 10 years ago, but that was, on a huge part, her prerogative. JPL acoustic is a befitting tribute.

Alanis

thing is, this blog is actually a "thank you note" to a magnanimous woman who could read mah mind. woman, i really dig that we have the same musical taste. and this is applicable to other aspects of our being. i don’t even have to tell you which artists i wanna listen to at this time. i probably don’t even have to tell you what top or skirt i want this season!

my birthday is on the 18th of august…

…nah, you don’t have to. these are mighty fine.

on second thought, "fine" is an understatement - I F***IN’ SCREAMED MY LUNGS OUT WITH MY SISTER WHENAargh_1 I GOT THEM!!!

and i even wrote a friggin’ blog for it.

  1. i couldn’t decide either which one i like better- the alanis then, full of angst and rage or the alanis now, restrained (perhaps), mature (maybe), sober and focused- (definitely!). siguro the latter. i like the idea that she’s ‘growing’ and we along with her. her music are bound to become timeless. it’s great to be a witness of her musical journey. enuff said.

ps. oh and i meant to write walang anuman! ;-)

  2. pahabol on alanis: her voice is richer now, right? less yelps, too. and she can hit those notes effortlessly.
